My Thoughts on the Spiderman Movies

Hollywood just doesn't know what to do with the Spiderman franchise.

I must always preface my rants with: I am an avid comic book fan of all genres and publishers for as long as I have been able to read.  Literally.  My grandfather was a fan of the old newspaper funnies, as my dad read the old Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos and Tales From The Crypt books,  and uncle introduced mre to Chris Claremont's X-Men.

So when I go off,
I know what the fuck ahm talkin' 'bout!

The first movie did a decent job of presenting newbies the back story of Peter Parker and how a 16 year old boy became the most famous character in the Marvel Universe.  I personally dugg the wrestling scene at the beginning.  If I had gained those power at 16, I'd have probably did the same.  Now add the quasi scientific truth to the whole Green Goblin birth and you got yourself a really good superhero flick.

Spiderman 2 introduced us to Doctor Otto Octavius and brought a younger audience the awesome Alfred Molina.  This movie sucked.  If it wasn't for Doc Ock, I don't think I would have even bought this when it came to dvd.  Part 2 has something I call SD, Spidey Dysfunction.  You mean to tell me that Peter Parker lost his power because he was a little depressed his ex hooked up with an astronaut?!  He's a fucking astronaut, Parker!  If you weren't bitten by a genetically engineered arachnid, you'd be some poor white boy from Queens!
The other thing that was absolutely horse shit, when Doc Ock was making those tiny suns, are you to tell me how had the technology to control the fusion reaction of a star and was able to stand 10 feet away from it... really.  And if you built those damn arms, why don't you contribute to prosthetics research instead of doin' some crazy Frankenstein shit like making a star.  And Parker still blew off Mary Jane.

Spiderman 3 can be summed up into one simple question my son asked me as we watched it in the theatres when he was no more then 5 years old: "If Sandman is made out of sand... how can he cry?"
BOOM! GARBAGE!  I mentally checked out of the entire rest of that movie and have not watched the complete thing since.
It tickled me to no end to know that Sam Raimi did absolutely no press before the movie came out and purposely made it a load of horse shit since he was shafted by the executive producers on creative control of the film.

The Future of Spiderman Films

Now news has been spreading through the interwebs of the casting of Spiderman 4, which is actually a reboot of sorts.  Find my post here.  And now we get Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben and Sally Field as Aunt May.  WAIT WHAT!   That guy from 'Apocalypse NOW!' is good old Uncle Ben?!!?

And the other strangeness coming out of the movie is the news of Rhys Ifans as Doctor Curt Connors aka The Lizard .  This has already been an established character by one actor in all 3 films, and they just hijack the role to be played by someone else!  Lastly, the hit or miss hottie Emma Stone is coming in as Gwen Stacy.

Stranger role choices have been made in other films... so I only hope the best for Spider-Man 4
