"The project was announced in March 2010 by Legendary Pictures and plans to co-produce with Warner Bros., who will co-finance the project. Legendary plans to make a film that would be an homage to the original 1954 Japanese film Godzilla instead of following up on the 1998 American remake also titled Godzilla. Legendary planned at the time for the new film to be released in 2012."
