Harry Potter Scribe To Revamp 'Akira' | #RemakeHell

The man responsible for seven of the eight Harry Potter movies, writer Steve Kloves has been courted script the upcoming, live-action version of the intense manga-turned-anime epic "Akira."

The Oscar nominated writer will take over work on the script from Albert Torres and previous writers, “Iron Man” scribes Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, according to Variety.

Based on the report's choice of words, and the fact that Katsuhiro Otomo’s original graphic novel is known for its dense and sprawling storyline, it’s likely that Kloves isn’t doing a page-one rewrite, but tightening the script either for narrative or budgetary purposes.

Depending on who you ask, Kloves either ingratiated or made an enemy of himself by essentially doing the same thing with the "Harry Potter" franchise, taking increasing liberties with the text in each new movie. Regardless, the news of his involvement couldn’t come at a better time for fans of “Akira,” who’ve had a hard and disappointing week of it with rumors that several big name stars, including Brad Pitt, James Franco, and Mila Kunis, all passed on the project.
