Police said Timothy McGowan was arrested in Novato a week ago.
Once McGowan was in custody, police realized that he had also been arrested for driving under the influence in San Francisco and in San Rafael during the two days prior to the third arrest.
McGowan's family said he's a recovering alcoholic who had recently relapsed because of a death in the family."
