Old School Trading Cards Go High Tech | Go! Go! Gadgets!

Gone are the days of the neighbor kid riding his BMX down the street with the CLICK-CLICK-CLICK! of a  Rickey Henderson baseball card clothespinned to the bike frame. Kids these days get a usb device with 2Gb of memory, an LCD screen and sound with highlights from their favorite basketball stars.

The cards were created by San Dimas display company Recom Group Inc. for Panini America Inc., maker of trading cards for the National Basketball Assn., the National Hockey League and the National Football League.

Limited-edition video trading cards -- packed with 20 minutes of career highlight footage -- will begin hitting store shelves in June. The first ones will feature four basketball players: Lakers star Kobe Bryant, Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers, John Wall of the Washington Wizards and Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

I forgot to mention the device also comes with its own charger.

A pack of five retails for $20 and will be available in sports memorabilia shops around the country. And as you might imagine, modders are already plotting different uses. Porn-In-A-Pocket, anyone?
