The news comes courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, which learned that Paramount has opted to put the project on an "indefinite" hiatus due to script issues. A source tells the trade that Paramount has temporarily laid off its pre-production staff, which means we definitely won't be seeing "Ninja Turtles" come out on its planned December 2013 release date.
Another source says that "Ninja Turtles" has only had its production pushed back 10 weeks, and that the movie's release date has been moved to May 2014. Either way, things aren't looking good for the reboot, which was ditching the "teenage" and "mutant" elements of the four title ninja turtles and was going to have them have an alien origin instead.
This isn't the first project Paramount has delayed recently. First "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" had its release date pushed back nine months only weeks before it was supposed to hit theaters. Initial reports say it was because Paramount execs wanted to post-convert the project into 3D, causing the set back.
Then, earlier this week, THR broke the news that Paramount has pushed "World War Z's" release date from December 2012 to June 2013.
