The rumor, stemming from Sony-Ericsson (who has yet to release an Android 2.0 phone) is said to be a cross between the Samsung Galaxy/ Captivate/ Epic/ Fascinate (or whatever the hell they're calling that thing) and PSP Go
- a landscape slider with the game controls instead of the QWERTY and touchscreen. Described as having about 4 inch screen with WVGA resolution (think Motorola Droid), 5 megapixel camera as well as all the standard Playstation buttons. The D-pad is there along with a virtual touchscreen joystick.
The biggest part of the story is that it will be the platform that Google releases it's next Android OS, dubbed Gingerbread. Games & content will be download only, like the PSP Go
, and since Android 3.0 will support 3 dimensional gaming, this may actually be the next evolution of the Playstation Portable
(the PSP 3000
does support Skype with it's camera peripheral
and instant messaging)
Now if this has any truth, the mix of Sony's Walkman
capabilities and Playstation Network experience along with Android's processing power, could churn out an intense new gaming smartphone category.
Look for it to arrive before Chrismas 2010!
